Burning, brilliant colours and cultural significance come together in this acrylic and ochres on canvas created in situ by Carol McCormack.

This painting is of Windjana Gorge in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Windjana Gorge in the Kimberley is a powerfully spiritual place where aborigines congregated to paint Wandjinas, the spirit people they believed responsible for bringing the annual wet seasons. Sunset here sets fire to the dark rocks and has been a daily ritual since time immemorial. - Carol McCormack
